In light of the tides of globalization and harsh international competition, strengthening of talent cultivation in the domains of humanity and social sciences has become an essential investment to ensure Taiwan’s continued development and even survival in the future. Because of this sacred mission, NCCU has been working tirelessly in recent years in the hope of creating an exceptional environment of quality education for the disciplines of humanities and social sciences ever since the campus received funds allocated for the first phase of MOE’s “World Class University & Top Research Institution Project”(with a budget of NT$ 50 billion over a five year period). NCCU wishes to realize the goal of cultivating leadership talents with the capacity for humanistic care and international vision who can create and impart top knowledge and utilize their influences in the society. As a university with roots in humanity and social sciences, NCCU has been fully committed to the elevation of its research energies and emphasis on teaching-oriented courses so that it could one day become a stronghold for humanity and social science disciplines in Taiwan, Asia and around the world. With solid groundwork in academic disciplines, NCCU shall continue to expand its professional domains while persisting in the principles of giving equal weight to education and research in order to cultivate outstanding talents with the capacity to compete in the international circle.
With the aforementioned objective in mind, NCCU’s College of Foreign Languages & Literature has also adopted similar goals to be its primary target. In order to achieve its goals, the College has aggressively promoted language elite education and culture-research integration projects in recent years by defining three specific orientations for its implementation goals:
(i) Promote diversified foreign language education that incorporates language competence and professional expertise to cultivate outstanding elites.
(ii) Integrate research of Asian and western cultures – apart from encouraging humanity scholars to take part in relevant research, the College shall also integrate teaching and research to improve the effectiveness of foreign language learning in order to strengthen students’ foundation in humanities that is essential in the acquisition of a foreign language.
(iii) Integrate various culture and research exchange platforms from other Asian countries to establish an evaluation criteria for humanity research and education in Asia. ''
